It’s been a year since I lost my mom. I spent a little time the other day going back through some of the last chats we had together in my Gmail account. In April we were talking about the trip to Texas with all the grandkids. In June, it was mostly preparation for the family get together we had that ended with her in the hospital. It would have been nice to find some forgotten conversations where I told her all of those things I never got around to mentioning. Thanks for coming to all those baseball games. Thanks for letting go when your kids left home. Thanks for dropping everything when we came back. All that good sappy stuff that boys don’t really say to their moms.

But I didn’t find any of that. I guess because I didn’t say it very much. Should have but didn’t. But I don’t lose sleep over that because I know she knew we all thought the world of her. But I do hate thinking about what she’s already missed in one year, what she’ll miss later this week and what we’ve missed by having her around.
